Marketed to children by brightly colored advertisements that mimicked the format of a comic, this bomb ring contains a spinthariscope, a device used to visualize radioactive decay. By placing a small sample of radioactive material, in this case polonium, behind a zinc sulfide screen, scintillations (flashes of luminescence created by alpha particles striking the screen) could be seen through an "Observation Lens" inside the ring. The red plastic end acted as a cover for this lens as well as a "Secret Message Compartment" for all of your junior espionage needs!
