Counselor In Training Program

The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History's Counselor In Training (CIT) Program is a teen leadership program that builds leadership, interpersonal, collaborative, and communication skills.

Counselor In Training Application

The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History’s Counselor-in-Training Program is a day camp experience designed to offer leadership opportunities and prepare teens to become camp staff and productive community members.

The CIT program includes one week of required training and at least five weeks of internship (for six weeks) in all aspects of a counselor’s job at a day camp. This includes training sessions, counseling techniques and best practices, communication and leadership, and environmental stewardship.

CIT applicants must be between the ages of 13-16. CIT applicants must complete a CIT application before being considered for the program. Acceptance into the program is limited and is based upon the completed application, a submitted student resume, and an interview with the Director of Education. Please note that a CIT must attend one full week of required training and no less than 5-week CIT sessions to complete the program.

The museum CIT program enhances interpersonal and communication skills, fostering independence and self-awareness. Successful CIT program participants will graduate with valuable leadership skills that will serve them well at home, school, and in their community. CITs are considered campers for the CIT program while preparing for their potential future opportunities as camp counselors.

  • Applicants must be at least 13 years old at the start of their CIT session.
  • Applicants must have a genuine interest in recreational youth development.
  • CITs must be willing to commit to the required energy, enthusiasm, and positive attitude toward all aspects of the training program.

Applications Open February 3
