An educational experience of all things nuclear from January 27-31, 2025.
The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History will welcome 6th through 12th graders from schools that serve primarily Indigenous/Native students to participate in nuclear, radiation, and energy-related activities. Museum educators and volunteers with careers in nuclear science and engineering will lead these activities. Activity lessons will meet state and national standards related to nuclear energy, atomic structure, and the history of the Atomic Age.
Atomic Science Week will be a free week of programming for participating schools. It will allow students to see how nuclear science can be part of their lives and offer educators a way to integrate nuclear science activities into their classroom instruction.
Field trips during this time include free busing and admission for accepted groups, thanks to the generous support of The American Nuclear Society (ANS). In addition to busing and admission to the museum, schools attending Atomic Science Week will receive materials and lesson plans to support ongoing engagement with nuclear science after their field trip, including an ANS Cloud Chamber Kit and a Geiger counter with the source material.
If you are a teacher or administrator and want to participate with your students, please email Linda Anderson, Education Enrichment Coordinator, or call (505) 245-2137 ex 134 to inquire about these opportunities.
